Releasing Syside 1.0: for production at scale

After 4 years of relentless Syside & SysML v2 development by the Sensmetry team, after being stress-tested by tens of thousands of incredible users through countless 0.x releases, after being battle-tested in production projects for critical software-defined systems on Land and in Space, after earning the trust of clients from cutting-edge innovators like Anduril to the global automotive leaders like CARIAD (VW Group) that keep us moving,

we are launching Syside 1.0 – the most powerful Systems Engineering Automation suite, ready for Enterprise adoption at scale.

Product changes

1. Starting with Syside 1.0, there is only one product name to remember – Syside. Syside is available as a VS Code extension and as a Python library with a CLI.

The functionality of Syside Editor, Syside Modeler, Syside CLI, and Syside Automator in 0.x releases is now all contained within Syside 1.0. The Syside Modeler VS Code extension will no longer receive feature updates and will be discontinued on 2027-01-21.

2. New diagram visualization engine with full SysML v2 spec. coverage, built in-house and accessible from both the Syside VS Code extension and the Python library/CLI. Learn more about the engine's capabilities here.

3. CLI is now installed together with the Python Library to simplify user workflows. Learn more in the docs here.

4. Sysand package manager got integrated into Syside for effective collaboration; it installs together with the Python Library & CLI. Learn about the command capabilities here.

5. Download & installation changes for trusted access: Syside 1.0 download now requires providing a valid license. We will continue working to improve the installation and updating experience.

ⓘ  Note

At the time of release, Syside 1.0 components are available to paying users only and are not distributed through the VS Code/VSCodium or PyPI marketplaces. Syside 0.x tools are still available through these public channels as before.

The Sensmetry team will keep improving distribution, installation, updates, and license management over the coming days and weeks to better serve the user community. That said, our first priority is getting Syside 1.0 to everyone who needs it today, so they can build even faster.

Capability expansion

1. New diagnostics and validation rules introduced to improve model accuracy and help users express their designs precisely & correctly. All to enable reliable systems engineering automation. Follow our 'Migrate to Syside 1.0' guide to update your models, settings, views, grids, and Python scripts.

2. Added a Syside settings UI that lets you configure how Syside draws diagrams, lints, formats, and more without writing TOML. Learn more.

3. New ‘in-house’ diagram visualization engine – faster & comprehensive coverage:

  1. Comprehensive SysML v2 diagram coverage of all main diagram types for product use. Full coverage list here.
  2. Bi-directional syncing between diagrams and textual notation (both ways, not just ‘diagram to text’). Learn to use it here.
  3. Fast visualization: after your model loads once, opening or switching to other diagrams of that model is much quicker.
  4. Click to copy the matching CLI command of the rendered diagram, so the same view can be reproduced and generated automatically through the CLI. Learn about this feature and other diagram controls here.
  5. Ability to adjust diagram depth and switch styles on the fly: tree or nested layouts, and general, interconnection, action flow, sequence, and other view types. Learn about this feature and other diagram controls here.
  6. Customize the colors of the diagram elements. Conditional coloring is available via configuration files. Learn about this feature and other diagram controls here.

4. More permissive generation of views (table, matrix, and diagram): non-critical errors no longer prevent views from rendering.

5. Hierarchical table view capabilities expanded to make them more flexible and powerful for diverse custom applications, from requirements management to safety analyses. Learn more here.

6. Improved high-level Python APIs, especially around model loading, and disallowed programming patterns that would lead our users to badly performing scripts. Note that the powerful high-level query Python APIs shipped in 0.11.0, so check them out. Learn more here.

7. Folding ranges added to show/hide long lists of imports in a bigger SysML v2 model.
